Echinacée / Echinacea
They tolerate all soils provided the drainage is good, but do best in moderately rich soil. Their drought tolerance is excellent, but despite everything, they flower more abundantly when the soil is not allowed to dry out thoroughly.
Ideally, they would be grown in full sun, but partial shade is acceptable. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this stimulates taller, but weaker stems that can bend under the force of the wind. They are solidly perennial in zone 4 and usually do well in zone 3 as well.
